15 April 2005: Colorful wildflowers blanket fields and old cemeteries in DeWitt County, Texas. This photo was taken in the Holy Cross Catholic Church Cemetery in Yorktown, Texas. The Wildflower Association in Cuero, TX distributes a map of local cemeteries and suggests that visitors check them for wildflowers. Many of the headstones in this cemetery had German names. German immigrants came to this area in the late 1800's. From what I have seen, only their names remain, not much of their heritage. I can see why the Germans were attracted to this area because the land is flat, good for farming and ranching. Visit our Spring Flowers in Texas Galleries to view more photos of wildflowers.
