As of September 2007, I have returned to teaching as a part-time instructor in Adult Basic Education, GED Preparation, and English as a Second Language at Southwestern Oregon Community College in Brookings, OR. I will continue my photography after we get settled in our house and I become a more experienced community college instructor. Our four kittens require four handfuls of supervision when they are awake!
Kay, a veteran teacher of English and adolescents with special needs, is enjoying taking photos and learning web development as she travels around the USA with Tom and their two furry feline friends, Harry and Sadie. She is currently taking an early retirement with Tom to travel, read, write, and explore the world outside of the classroom where she has lived for more than four decades as a student and a teacher. She studied at the University of MD and Johns Hopkins University. She taught in MD, VA, DoDEA-Germany, and CA. She is the primary web designer and writer for this personal website as well as k4teens.info, a website focusing on school issues for adolescents with learning and behavior problems. She currently uses a Canon EOS 10D camera preferring the Canon Zoom 24-70 mm lens. She also uses a Canon PowerShot SD630. You may contact her at kay@imagenomads.com.

Tom is a self-proclaimed computer geek who wears "Geek" T-shirts to identify himself to others. He is the web development instructor and technical support guy for this website. After spending a few years in the Navy, he studied psychology and Behavior Analysis at WVU. His work experiences have been mostly in computer software engineering. He continues to study different computer languages for his own interest and professional growth. He is especially enjoying working with Ruby on Rails (RoR) which he is using to create a software program detailing our travels. Tom also researches building "green" and energy-efficient homes. We would like to have an energy-efficient house built for us in the future along the Oregon Coast. We'll be visiting Sunlight Homes in New Mexico this summer to research their great building concepts. You may contact him at tomd@mactom.com.

11 June 2007: On this date, Harry Cat spent his last day with us. He developed pleural effusion caused by cardiac disease. He was a great cat and will be greatly missed. In September we went to the Humane Society in Brookings, OR to adopt a kitten as a companion for Sadie Cat. Four kittens from the same litter adopted us! Their two other litter-mates were adopted by another human.
Harry Cat was found with a litter mate at a gas station in Frederick, MD, by one of my former students. Harry loved the beach on the West Coast! He still cannot understand why we left that great yard. He has always liked to hunt and he found many critters in the driftwood, like lizards and snakes, when he walked on the beach with us. The gophers in the yard kept him busy for a while, too, and he played chase with the small red fox. He didn't show much affection for the raccoons or opossums, and neither did we. He has adapted to our nomadic life style and cautiously explores his new yards at each new location. He scratches at the door like a dog to go out or come in. Because his humans need to sleep at night, he frequently spends nights in Sadie's cat-condo-cave behind closed doors. Harry's favorite treat is whipped cream, "Sahne" in German.

Tom says that Sadie Cat is really a stuffed animal. She will venture out in good weather at dusk to chase bugs, but she would just as soon stay inside to sleep or play "hiss and spit" with Tom as she defends her "cave." Tom has recently stopped playing this game with Sadie in hopes that she will spend time with him as a friend, not just foe. Because she loved her cat tower furniture so much, we designed a cat-condo in our RV for her. It has five levels with an opening in each floor so the cats can move from floor to floor. The top level has a window for watching the world go by, but is mostly used for night viewing. Two levels are for sleeping. One level holds food and water, and the basement level has their litter box which we can clean from a hatch outside of the RV. When we're towing, the cats are enclosed in their condo for safety. After so many years of this routine, they both go in their even if the door is not put on. It is their safe place. At night, if Harry is scratching to go out and he can't because it's not safe or not allowed, the cats are enclosed in their condo where they can romp through the night. Sadie surely manages to get enough sleep during the day because she is always taking cat-naps! She makes a great pillow and cuddles with her humans. She will even hold paws with me. Her favorite treat is oven baked deli-style turkey. |

FOR SALE: We're settling down in Brookings, OR, so our "rig", shown in the photo above which was taken some place near Tuscon, AZ, is for sale. Contact Tom for more information or visit his webpages about our rig.
Our Ford 550 truck is named Ruby, although she is dark green not red, after the character in the book and movie, Cold Mountain. Ruby was a working woman and so is our truck. She tows our "house" from coast to coast.
From 2003-2007, we traveled full-time in this fifth-wheel recreational vehicle (RV) built by New Horizons RV in Kansas. We have a satellite dish that works some of the time depending on our location and trees. More and more campgrounds are providing Wi-Fi Internet, so uploading photos has become much easier when we have a fast connection. Sometimes we venture out to Internet cafes.
We are past members of the Good Sam and Escapees RV Clubs. You may find out more about our current location and hitching posts along our trail at Tom's website.
